Cultural Grant Guidelines

The Arts Council of Greenwood County has been designated a subgrant site by the SC Arts Commission. Organizations and individual artists can apply for funding to support performances, programming, and professional development.

Applicants are advised to contact the Executive Director of the Arts Council prior to submitting a grant to review guidelines and discuss details of the proposal.

Once applications have been received in the Arts Council office, they will be studied and reviewed by a Grants Review Panel who will make recommendations to the Arts Council Board. The Board will have final authority on recommendations from the panel. Applicants will be notified of awards by mail two weeks after the grant deadline. Final payments will not be processed until the Final Report has been successfully completed by the grantee.

This grant opportunity is for artists and organizations located in this county for the past year.

$1000 is the maximum award for an organization, $500 for individuals. An organization or individual may receive two awards per year but cannot exceed the maximums.

Support is provided for a wide variety of quality arts projects and programs and / or for professional development opportunities for artists and administrative staff.

Grant applications must be received in the Arts Council office by 4:30 pm on the due date. Grant applications must include 4 copies of all forms submitted.

There are four granting periods:

  • August 30 – for projects occurring October to December
  • October 30- for projects occurring January to March
  • February 28 – for projects occurring April to June
  • April 30 – for projects occurring July to September

The grantee must match all Cultural Grant Awards on a one to one basis. An application for $500 would require a match of $500 from the grantee. Carefully documented creative time may be included as support for the grant but cannot be added as income.
Two letters of recommendation from credentialed sources are needed if you are not an organization with a board of directors.

Appropriate recognition must be given to the sources of funding: the Arts Council of Greenwood County, and The SC Arts Commission. Please acknowledge the Arts Commission by using this sentence: This program is funded in part by the SC Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC. These acknowledgments must be given in press releases or printed material pertaining to the proposal. Copies of all materials must be included in the final report.

A final report will be due two weeks after completion of the project or proposal. Final payment will be made after the report has been reviewed and approved by the Executive Director.
